the rattrap is the story of the rattrap seller. Which sells rattrap made of wire. He is very poor.many times he has to resort to theft and begging to earn his livelihood, . The peddler is alone in this world and live a miserable life.He had many thoughts in his mind, one of which was that the whole world is nothing but a rattrap And in this world, home clothes, money, food is nothing but baits.People are attracted by this baits and get caught in the rattrap.Every night the paddler had to seek shelter as he had no home of his own.One evening the paddler saw a cottage on the side of the road.The owner of that cottage was Old Crofter. Old croftrr lived alone for a long time.old crofter was very happy with the arrival of the peddler.old crofter gave the peddler porridge to eat.Crofter, told the peddler that he had a cow whose milk he sold and earned about 30 kronor last month.The next morning, the peddler stole the old crofter’s money and run towards the forest, but does not find a way out of the forest and realizes that he too has been caught in a rattrap. After a while, the paddler hears the sound of an iron strike and reached to the iron mill.
To protect against cold, he stays in the iron mill.That day the owner of the iron mill and his daughter Edla come there for inspection.then the Ironmaster considers Peddler as his old friend.The Ironmaster invites the peddler for Christmas eve but he refuses for fear of being caught. Then edla invites peddler very politely.After a while the peddler agrees to go with them. When he goes to their house, he cuts his hair and puts on Iron Master's clothes. When he attends the party, Ironmaster realizes that he is not his friend and asks him to leave, but Edla stops him.Edla explains to her father and says he is our guest and lets him stay till Christmas.When Edla and her father go to church the next day, they know that the peddler is a thief and stole the old crofter's money.They both feel very sorry and quickly go home.When they reached there, they saw that the peddler had not stolen anything from their house.But the peddler leaves a rattrap.there was the old crofter's money and a letter in it.The peddler thanks to Edla for his kindness and promise that he wouldn't steel anything.
